Why I Throw Egg Freezing Parties

Dec 24, 2017 | Fertility Care
If the idea of an egg freezing party terrifies you, it should. It’s a toxic combination of alcohol and surgical procedure that frankly I’m surprised is still legal. And, cut. This is a joke. I hope you are laughing, or at least slack-jawed. I’m obviously kidding here. But you’d be surprised, I have had women ask me if egg freezing happens at these shindigs. Alas, no. It most certainly does not. Nor will it ever. Egg Freezing parties are safe and surgery-free gatherings of women (and sometimes men) to learn more about the process of freezing your eggs (or sperm). Beyond that, we talk in general about fertility and how every woman (and man) can take a proactive role in preserving theirs. There is humor. There is honest talk. Most importantly, you will learn about clear steps you can take after leaving the party. This is not merely an information session with great drinks and yummy food, this is meant to inspire action! (Although, I do hope that you meet some new friends and leave with a full belly. I’m a good party host, or so I’ve been told.) I started Egg Freezing parties for a simple reason. Older women...

Fertility Sexting: Your Handy Guide to Fertility Abbreviations

Dec 23, 2017 | Fertility Care
The Egg Whisperer Show on Youtube Consider this your fun fertility glossary. MD: Medical Doctor…NOT Medical Deity. Remember doctors are dealing with human biology, and not playing the hand of God. Fertility treatment success rates are not 100%. We can only do our best with what we have. I don’t take credit for success, I celebrate it and if a fertility treatment isn’t successful, I certainly know that together we did everything possible to give you the highest chance of success. Infertility: You are “In” Fertility. When patients walk in my door they may think they are not fertile, but I see you as someone who is fertile and will become a parent. I see all of my patients as fertility patients. I don’t see them as infertile people, unable to conceive, quite the opposite. FSH: Forget “Follicle Stimulating Hormone”. I like to call it the, “False Security Hormone”. This can be checked between days 1–4 during the menstrual cycle. It’s a diagnostic tool that tells us about your egg quality but this is the thing: we don’t check it in isolation. We check it with the estrogen level too and if your estrogen level is high it’s masking a higher...

The Ultimate 4 Step Guide to IVF

Dec 23, 2017 | Fertility Care
I call it the, “Egg Whisperer D.I.E.T.” You can take the ingredients of the diet and apply them to whatever your situation may be. I talked about it on my Egg Whisperer Show, which you can watch and subscribe to here. Here are the 4 parts of your IVF recipe for Success: D is for Diagnosis: I always want to know what the fertility factors are for my patients. There may be something I can do to improve the situation so when we do IVF we have the highest chance for success. If you know why you need IVF in the first place, then you’re better prepared for the number of cycles you’ll need or have a better understanding of what the right protocol is for you. How do we get to a diagnosis in understanding what the problem may be? (Drumroll please…) TESTING! There are three core elements: 1. Eggs: How do you know if you have good eggs? There are things you can check! Hormones: FSH, estradiol and AMH. These are blood tests. Antral Follicle count: This is an ultrasound looking at the number of resting follicles seen in your ovaries. Fertility Gene Test: This is a blood test...

Embryo Donation: 6 Things you need to Know

Dec 05, 2017 | Fertility Care
Recently on The Egg Whisperer Show, I talked with fertility psychologist, Dr. Allen about the emotional aspects of embryo donation. This is a relevant topic for three groups of people. Anyone considering IVF. Why? You may not need all the embryos you have for the family size you will want. The time to talk about this is before your IVF cycle. Consider creating only a certain number of embryos and simply freezing the rest of your eggs extracted during IVF. Doing this will mean you need not consider what to do with extra embryos if that is an emotional decision you’re not willing or wanting to make. Anyone that has gone through IVF and with extra unused embryos. For those considering starting a family, but unable to do so on their own. More specifically, this type of person likes the idea of using an already created embryo. Why might that be the case? If for example this person needs to use an egg donor and or sperm donor, or both, or doesn’t want to create new embryos when so many are already in existence. Embryo donation, when done right, is a beautiful exchange. It’s often a win-win scenario when a donating family can send off...

Stress and Getting Pregnant, The Top 10 Things You Need To Know

Nov 19, 2017 | Fertility Care
Stress and pregnancy go hand in hand. Heck, stress and living life go hand in hand! While some stress is healthy, and actually a helpful motivator to us, too much can send us into a mental (and sometimes physical) tailspin. Last night, on the Egg Whisperer Show, I spoke with Dr. Allen who is a fertility psychologist about this very topic. We covered how she defines stress, what it may mean for pregnancy, and ways to reduce it in your life. If you haven’t watched the show here’s the link to do so. For me, even hearing Dr. Allen talk was like a 30 minute meditation! Before I get into my top 10 list of things you need to know from the show, I wanted to touch on two of my favorite parts. I particularly liked her perspective on something I hear from patients time and again. “I want to get pregnant naturally”. Dr. Allen’s response was more perfect than any I’ve heard, and one I hope will bring you peace of mind should this be something you desire too. “It still takes all of the natural miracles to become pregnant. With fertility treatment, and all it entails you’re simply facilitating a natural process to happen....

Think Egg Count and Quality Doesn’t Matter? Think Again.

Oct 18, 2017 | Fertility Care
I was recently quoted in an article published by CNN detailing findings from a study that challenged the connection between egg count and fertility. Since then, I have seen several subsequent articles, with headlines that can be misleading, and down right confusing. You may have read one of these and thought, “Oh?—?I don’t need to get my egg count checked. It won’t have any bearing on my ability to conceive.” Wrong. Egg count and quality are important parts of a much bigger picture in understanding your fertility. But it’s not the only one. So it’s important not treat it as THE signal for fertility. Ultimately, I’m here to help clear the air from the confusion this latest study may have caused. I want each of you to be informed and make decisions for your own bodies and family plans according to the full set of facts, not based on one study. And so, in case you had any doubt. Please know that, yes. It is 100% smart, proactive, and recommended that you get your fertility (including egg count) checked. Here’s why: If you’ve seen any of my Egg Whisperer Shows, or been at one of my egg freezing parties, you’ll hear...
