Is Unexplained Infertility a thing of the Past?

Jan 24, 2017 | Fertility Care
Is "unexplained infertility" close to being a thing of the past? I really hope so. I may now be able to explain the unexplainable with a genetic test for a woman's fertility: Why early menopause, PCOS, endometriosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, and implantation failure. We're so used to thinking we are somehow responsible and are to blame for our fertility issues. This test will hopefully provide the clarity that my patients so desire. Some patients who have ended their journeys may now be able to get the closure they've always wanted by knowing the "why" after all these years. AT LAST. Read more about it here. Want to get it done? Dr. Aimee’s List of Five Things Every Fertility Patient Needs

Jan 22, 2017 | Fertility Care
Every fertility patient needs these 5 things. 1.TEAM: Find your team. Think about everyone you need in your huddle to help you reach your goals. Grab a piece of paper right now and write down who you need on your roster to make this as easy and enjoyable a process as possible. Don't just think about your main huddle, think about who you need on your cheering squad too. For example: Do you have PCOS? Make sure your team includes: a personal trainer, nutritionist, acupuncturist and fertility doctor. 2.TRY: Having sex probably feels like a chore by now and depending on how long you've been trying, you might be skipping sex for months at a time. Sex on demand isn't fun or sexy. You aren't tearing each other's clothes off  like in soap operas, but try to get your groove back. See a sex therapist if needed. I know it sounds funny to think after being a fertility patient that you could possibly get pregnant naturally, but sometimes the impossible happens. 3.TRANSPARENCY: Be honest with yourself about your diagnosis. If you're over 40, your fertility issues are at least partially age related. Fertility isn't skin deep, you "can't put botox in...

Dr. Aimee in the London Evening Standard

Jan 21, 2017 | Fertility Care
This week in the UK, headlines about a woman becoming a first time mom at age 64 dominated the news. Dr. Aimee was interviewed and quoted in this article in the London Evening Standard. There is an inevitable truth: we will all run out of eggs. Unfortunately, many women run out before they have completed their family. Here are the options for you when your eggs aren't viable anymore: use a donated egg, donated embryo, your own frozen eggs from when you were younger, or adopt. Talk to your fertility doctor to learn more about what's right for you at your age.

New Treatment called INVOcell with promising Results

Jan 21, 2017 | Fertility Care
INVOcell is an intravaginal chamber that holds an embryo until it's ready to be transferred into the uterus. The process is similar to IVF but rather than the embryo growing in a lab, it grows in the intravaginal device until the embryo is ready to be transferred. Doing IUI treatment can give you a pregnancy rate of 10-15% at best, but putting an embryo in the uterus raises pregnancy rates to over 50% according to this video. Patients ask me all the time, what other treatments are available when IUI isn't successful. This may just be it! I think of it as a treatment between IUI and IVF without the cost of IVF. The downsides: you wouldn't be able to preserve your fertility (freeze embryos) or genetically test them. It is very exciting to see this new technology showing such promising results.
