Fertility Myths Debunked

Feb 14, 2018 | Fertility Care
Do you think you can put botox in your ovaries? You know, plump up those older eggs to regain their youthfulness? Nope, sorry. Not possible. Or have you thought that because you can take a youthful looking selfie, and feel great, that your fertility must be picture perfect too? Nope, sorry. Good selfies don’t equal good fertility. But you’re not dumb. You know that. But there may be some tricky information out there that you’re not entirely sure if it’s true. Fertility isn’t surface level. It’s not skin-deep. It’s biology. It’s what’s deep inside, and yet impacted by what’s outside of you too. Suffice to say, it can be complex. Which is why I’m here. I’m certainly a fertility doctor with over a decade of training and advanced degrees that have gotten me to the point where I finally know how to make a baby. And I want to share what I know with all of you. One very important component of what I do is myth busting. (No, really! I’m serious). There are so many myths circulating around about what will make someone fertile or less fertile. What and how fertility is measured. What matters, and what doesn’t. Consider...

Is your pregnancy test negative, again?

Jan 25, 2018 | Fertility Care
Here is my guide for what to do. Let’s get real. It sucks when we do everything we can in our power to make something happen, and it just doesn’t. We try. We try again. And still we don’t get the result we’re hoping for. If you’ve ever wanted to get pregnant, and have seen a negative result on the test, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Month after month. Test after test. It doesn’t matter if it’s one month of trying or 2 years…. “Trying to get pregnant” can be painful, and the phrase itself is defeatist. The mindset it establishes is one based on fear, vs. love. I like to lead from a place of love, and encourage my patients to think positively. For that reason, I advocate for replacing it with, “preparing for pregnancy.” Doesn’t it just sound more peaceful, and open to the process? I think so. Regardless if you are on board with my line of thinking, I do want to share some helpful tips and suggestions so that your path to pregnancy is as informed and efficient as possible. Preparing for Pregnancy Whether you’ve been preparing for pregnancy for one month, or twelve. It can...

Image source: Google Surrogacy. It’s not just for the rich and famous. Hollywood may bring more awareness to the term, “surrogate”, but I want to make sure there’s more depth and understanding to what it really means. First things first. Surrogates are modern day super heroes. Truly, they are angels walking the earth among us. These are women that offer people, famous or not, the chance to have a family when they are unable to on their own. Surrogacy is an emotional path, it’s complex, and it’s a unique journey for each who take it. My goal here is not to over simplify, but to shed light on a few core things I’d like for you to know. Use this as a practical guide for what to expect, what to consider, and of course always consult with a professional (a real human being) to support you in your journey, whatever it may be. This is information dense, so I’m going to break down this post into three main areas: Area 1: What surrogacy is...

Patient Success Story

One Couple’s Incredible Struggle to Have Children After 5 years, 11 IVF cycles, and two attempts with a surrogate, here is what they learned. When Hazel and Vimal fell in love, they immediately bonded over their desire for children. “From day 1 we talked about having children, from when we first started dating. Now when I look back I’m like, really, you thought you would get pregnant on the day of, you know, the wedding.” - Hazel They did everything they were supposed to trying to get pregnant. She tracked ovulation, he got a semen analysis, and results looked normal. “She had to go through a battery of tests, just to see what might be going on with her fertility, where as for me it was just a simple semen analysis.” - Vimal They started trying IVF, but still nothing worked. They went to see a new fertility specialist Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh. She advised them that they would likely need a gestational carrier due to problems with Hazel’s uterus. “To me, surrogacy was so hard to reach, because we spent so much money already on this journey, and I couldn’t imagine spending more money, but at the same time I...
